Senior Formulation Scientist

A vaccine manufacturer is looking for a Senior Formulation Scientist to join its growing team. You will coordinate all formulation development activities and manage the formulation development team. You must have a minimum of a BSc in a life science and significant vaccine formulation experience to apply for this role.

Responsibilities –

  • Coordinate all formulation development activities for internal research and external client projects
  • Undertake and execute formulation development and manufacturing activities in the laboratory for assigned internal and external projects
  • Actively contribute to the development of thermostable solid vaccines and biologics formulations
  • Manage the formulation development team, ensuring high competencies in all formulation development processes and techniques
  • Coordinate activities between the formulation and analytical groups
  • Perform analysis and interpretation of data
  • Generate and, as required, review and approve all formulation development protocols, technical and status reports
  • Assist Product Manager in reporting of results to external partners
  • Stay current with scientific literature and the state of the art

Requirements –

  • Ability to lead, plan and execute, laboratory based experimentation on vaccine formulation development projects – Expected to be at least 75% of day to day work requirement
  • Ability to manage a team of formulation scientists having mixed experience
  • Ability to plan and coordinate multiple formulation development projects
  • Ability to plan, execute, record and report own scientific work accurately and efficiently and in keeping with Company standards
  • Able to champion a quality system and quality by design approach to experimentation within a team
  • Ability to critically review and approve COSHH assessments
  • Ability to adhere to strict Health and Safety rules pertinent to working with vaccines in Containment Level 2 laboratories

 Qualifications –

  • PhD degree in relevant biological sciences and at least 5 years’ hands on experience in a laboratory based formulation role
  • At least 1 years’ experience in a scientific managerial role within a formulation development team
  • Expertise in leading formulation development projects for biologically active materials, such expertise to specifically include vaccines
  • Expertise in novel solid form formulation development of biologically active materials, such expertise to specifically include vaccines
  • Experience in vaccine handling • Good understanding of immunology
  • Experience in regulatory, quality and health and safety guidance pertaining to sterile manufacture of vaccine formulations and products is desirable

Salary £35k - £45k in line with experience
