Description

  • An exciting medical device start-up has an opportunity for a Synthetic Organic Chemist to join its team. You will be focused on the design synthesis (including scale-up) and characterisation of novel target molecules for nanoparticle conjugation and biological evaluation. You must be educated to degree level although a PhD is strongly preferred and have proven experience in the syntheses of complex compounds.


    Synthetic Organic Chemist Duties:

    • Research target molecules and develop synthetic routes
    • Use computational tools retrosynthetic analysis knowledge and experience to improve route design
    • Optimise synthesis and purification of new compounds
    • Synthesise novel fluorescent nanoparticles and perform conjugation experiments
    • Characterise intermediates and final products
    • Maintain detailed laboratory records and keep up to date with relevant literature
    • Design and execute experiments in a safe and efficient manner (including Risk Assessment and DoE)
    • Collaborate with other diverse Scientists and Engineers to create revise and implement your technical visions
    • Participate in the entire research and development lifecycle from concept to release for production
    • Maintain chemical consumables stock
    • Prepare quarterly reports for submission to management

     
    Experience Required:

    • D. in Organic Chemistry or MSc with 3 years’ experience of organic and carbohydrate synthesis
    • Experienced in synthesis functionalisation and processing of nanomaterials
    • Excellent knowledge of retrosynthesis and route design
    • Proven track record of success in the synthesis of complex compounds
    • Broad knowledge of synthetic reagents methodology reaction mechanisms reaction work- ups and isolations
    • Prior experience working in an industrial laboratory environment
    • Proficient in analytical and characterisation techniques (NMR Mass Spectroscopy HPLC FT- IR)
    • Analytical thinker with good problem-solving skills to overcome technical issues
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Able to work in a fast-paced industrial R&D environment
    • A hands-on team player
