Description

A fast growth start-up has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Scientist to join its team. You will be the go-to expert for the muscle programme reporting directly to the VP of R&D and be responsible for the development of tissue engineering solutions for the production of skeletal muscle from stem cells. To be considered you must have significant experience in developing and optimising differentiation protocols from stem cells into skeletal muscle cells.

Depending on your level of experience this role can be offered at either Principal Scientist or Director level.

Responsibilities

As the Prinicpal Scientist or Director of Muscle Biology you will be the go-to expert for the muscle programme reporting directly to the VP of R&D. Your responsibilities include the development of tissue engineering solutions for the production of skeletal muscle from stem cells.

  • Delivery of the skeletal muscle programme which spans across several teams in R&D
  • Design, optimise and conduct multi-factorial experiments enhance the production of muscle cells from stem cells
  • Be the “go-to expert” for all 2D and 3D muscle culture
  • Build strong, lasting relationships with our expert Scientific Advisory Board
  • Identify opportunities to collaborate with third parties, g. through joint grant applications
  • Oversee the team deliverables resulting of the highest quality, within budget and timelines
  • Lead, motivate and inspire the R&D team
  • Engage with other teams and with external collaborators
  • Prepare and deliver technical report updates to senior management
  • Keep up to date with field developments
  • Responsible for identifying and initiating new avenues of research, including methods to reduce production cost
  • Contribute to identifying and solve production scale up bottlenecks for the production of muscle at laboratory scale
  • General ad-hoc duties as required to support the departmental and organisation

Qualifications

  • PhD in Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related

Requirements

  • Seven or more years of academic or industry experience in myogenesis
  • In-depth experience in developing and optimising differentiation protocols from stem cells into skeletal muscle cells
  • In-depth experience in 3D tissue engineering of skeletal muscle
  • Experience in leading, developing and motivating successful teams
  • Ability to manage complex projects under pressure
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively; in a fast- paced team environment with shifting priorities
  • A proven history of independent investigations and innovative thinking
